The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities & Services at West Virginia University is accepting applications for a Registered Pest Technician position within Roads & Grounds. Under the guidance of the Certified Public Applicators, the Registered Pest Control Technician will inspect and treat campus buildings and grounds for insects, rodents, termites and other pest related concerns.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assist in inspecting all departmental buildings for insects, rodents, termites, birds, reptiles and other pests. Inspection will include detailed analysis of building structure (noting deficiencies that could hinder pest control) on all facilities. Certain tools are used when conducting these inspections such as flashlights, flushing agents, and extended mirrors. All pests must be properly identified and a specific treatment prescribed. These treatments may consist of, but are not limited to chemical control by means of:
Crack and crevice treatments
Apply pesticides according to prescribed treatments on the label and to what the law allows. Must maintain constant awareness of the hazards that pesticides pose when conducting such treatments.
Responsible for administration of comprehensive vector management program. Prepares written daily, weekly and monthly reports directed by the Assistant Director containing information such as the number of buildings inspected, pest and size of infestation found, unusual infestations, existing sanitation conditions, treatments prescribed, and follow-up plans. Make written and oral recommendations concerning the need for building alterations that will reduce or eliminate pest entry routes.
Assist Certified Public Applicators in educating faculty, staff, building supervisors and area managers on pest detection and prevention, exclusionary tactics, proper sanitation and control measures.
Clean, calibrate and maintain equipment for safe and proper operation. Equipment includes, but is not limited to B&G sprayer, compressed air sprayer, bait gun, traps, and power equipment.
Remove snow sidewalks, steps, roads and parking lots by means of hand tools, power brooms, tractors and trucks. Spread deicers and abrasives on public passageways as needed.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations on all occasions and must be available for telephone contact during all emergency and environmentally unsafe conditions.
The Division of Facilities and Services encompasses seven units that are integral to the University's success. Facilities and Services takes care of every aspect of WVU so that its employees, students and guests are safe and satisfied on campus.
Work Hours: Monday-Friday; 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Pay Grade: 11, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
Up to 18 months of education/training beyond high school or an equivalent combination of education/experience
At least one (1) year of experience in the field of commercial pest control
Valid driver's license
WV Certified Registered Technician in General Pest Control (category 8A) preferred
Standing, lifting, carrying, bending, walking, climbing ladders, working from high elevations
Operation of pest control equipment as well as power hand tools
Must be able to perform duties with agility
Cannot be allergic to dust and pesticides
