Instructional responsibilities include teaching PLP 105 – Fundamentals of Applied Plant Pathology
(2 credits) for the Institute of Agricultural Technology during the Fall 2018 semester. Course will be delivered at selected community colleges in Michigan:
Delta College - University Center, MI
Glen Oaks Community College - Centreville, MI
Kellogg Community College - Battle Creek, MI
Monroe County Community College - Monroe, MI
Wayne County Community College District - Taylor, MI
There will be a different instructor for each location.
PLP 105 contact hours will be 1.5 hours lecture, recitation, or discussion per week and 1.5 hours of lab per week (3 hours of total contact time per week) for 15 weeks of instruction. Course Goals are:
Introduce students to the causes of plant diseases, major groups of plant pathogens, and their biology.
Teach students to recognize symptoms of disease and the terminology used to describe them, while developing investigative and diagnostic skills.
Teach disease management strategies that are appropriate in crop production (agronomic, fruit, vegetable, ornamental, etc.), including principles and strategies of Integrated Pest Management.
Further develop oral presentation and communication skills, specifically those used to communicate information about plant diseases and disorders.
Position is planned to recur every Fall Semester
M.S. in Plant Pathology, Plant Science, Horticulture or related fields
Experience in the field of plant pathology including diagnostic and microscope skills
Knowledge and skills to develop teach resources in plant pathology
Excellent oral and written communication skills
M.S. in Plant Pathology or Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Plant science, Horticulture or related fields
Experience in development and assessment of learning outcomes
Undergraduate teaching experience and a passion for teaching
