A Post Doctoral Associate position is available in the Lockwood Lab, Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources and Neilsen Lab, Department of Entomology (Rutgers University) to research the use of environmental DNA to detect the presence of invasive insects within agricultural contexts.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D in ecology or entomology, or related field, and experience in molecular techniques.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate will develop eDNA survey protocols for various insect species including but not limited to spotted lanternfly. The position requires regular interaction with state and federal research scientists, university collaborators, and various stakeholder groups. Candidates should demonstrate proven in-lab molecular analysis skills, including generating and interpreting qPCR results (in any context). The preferred candidate will have a background in insect ecology and/or insect pest management. The candidate must also have experience ensuring lab compliance with regulatory and safety standards. A central component of the position will be publishing generated information within international peer-reviewed science journals.
The position requires standing for long periods in the lab and in the field, manipulating equipment in a lab and field setting, and comfort with detailed lab and computing duties.
